A while back, I read an article by Russian aeronautical writer Piotr Butowsky regarding Russian prototypes of different kinds, among them, an incredible project called Sh-90 by Sukhoi Bureau. It was intended as a replacement for the Sukhoi Su-25 tank buster before the fall of the Soviet Union, this was the projected next genaration air to surface platform against armor treats, it was planed for the 1990`s, thus, its designation Sh-90: Sturmovik for the 90`s.
The article came with an interesting rendering of the Sh-90, it presented an incredible side by side, twin fuselage design with swept-back wings configuration and diagonal rudder fins similar to the ones in the F-22 Raptor.
The sole view of this design make me wonder What happened with this proposal? it was clear that once Soviet union fell, all projects like the Sh-90 were destined to ovlibion, seems that a plant near the city of Irtkusk, was being prepared for the Sh-90 production line when the Soviet Union dissapeared.
There is another Sh-90 designation for an Ekranoplane that has no relation with the Sturmovik type of aircraft I'am describing here.
Did anybody knows something about this incredible "Sturmovik" Sh-90 Sukhoi proposal?
