IL-76 waterbomber prospects - NIFC
In keeping with the need to ensure airworthiness of aircraft,
the federal agencies will not be considering aircraft such as the
BE-200, the IL-76 or the A-10 since they dont hold current U.S.
airworthiness certificates,

But wait! Political pressure is being applied to the
US Forest Service to do something- anything - to get
at least SOME of those 33 US condemned air tankers back
up in the air. Some special permit will be hung on
SOME of these a/c, you can bet on it.

These a/c have been modified so far from original spec,
they will never, ever regain original type certification again.
Some have even lacked complete logs.

Of course, the IL-76 is certified in firefighting
trim and has been fighting large fires in Russia for
a decade or more, powerfully, safely, and effectively.

Some of the lessons from the Space Program ought to
be brought a little closer to earth.

Boeing sells 70%+ of all new aircraft sold into the CIS.
Boeing has invested well over $1B into the Russian aviation
business.

Too confusing - by half.

Check this report from Montana:

Forest Service stands firm on grounding of air tankers

Aha. Some air tankers will go back
into service per Dale Bosworth,
Chief of the Forest Service:

Of course, to assume laws prohibit men from taking
adequate measures to protect the population is folly.

Fire administrators etc. could, within existing guidelines,
import any firefighting airplane.

Note to readers of this thread, which ranks highly
on a search IL-76+waterbomber in most popular engines.

The guidelines which could allow for IL-76 waterbombers
to be called in as a 'deviation', in the public interest,
can be found online only here.

Get it while it lasts online and bear down on this
bureauspeak document, particularly where it says:

"Deviations from these policies" (among which, ruling out the
use of the IL-76 waterbomber) "may be necessary in the event
protection of life or property is indicated to be in the best
interest of the taxpaying public. In that case Federal line
officers have the authority to assume operational control."

Sorry.

That airtanker board link disappeared today.

Remember to check the cached version at your search:
