What is the difference in characteristics between Fighter and Interceptor?

Interceptor can do only "air to air" combat, it can track and destroy enemy airplanes, that's why it is called interceptor, but fighter is more general, it means not only "air to air" combat, but "air to ground" too. Both mean jet-fighter.

this is funny: in Russian word "interceptor" means an air brake and it is mostly used in gliders.
