They are part of the navy. They army cant move 1000+ into locations on a island where there are no airfields.etc this is where the marines go into combat, they have other roles too. |

Posted by Stuka (8) Edit | RE: Marine Corps and Army Posted: April 14, 2006 (4:54 AM) | use of Marines differ from country to country, generally Marines have light equipment and can be deployed very fast, they are followed by regular forces |

Posted by thisisreal (110) Edit | RE: Marine Corps and Army Posted: April 14, 2006 (4:06 PM) | On a whole, Army tactics are based around larger units and longer duration combat. However, with recent conflicts Marine and army units have been doing basically the same thing. Marines are naval infantry with special emphasis on amphibious operations. Their training is also significantly better than regular army Infantrymen training(in both length and intensity). not including units such as the 82d, 101st, 75th, 173d, etc. |

Posted by Rowdy (105) Edit | RE: Marine Corps and Army Posted: April 30, 2006 (1:03 PM) | Harry S Trueman once considered of disbanding Marine Corps, according to him Infantry now dont has to depend on ships for transport there are big and heavy a/c for that work, it was not right have a force parallel to army |

Posted by thisisreal (110) Edit | RE: Marine Corps and Army Posted: April 30, 2006 (11:01 PM) | How long will it take to move a Russian regiment to say, Mexico? How about an island with no airfields? |
|
Posted by Sukhoy (488) Edit | RE: Marine Corps and Army Posted: May 1, 2006 (3:56 AM) | USSR and Russia have another strategy than USA. Russia is in Asia where are the majority theaters of conflicts. They maybe will send faster troops than USA. Not to forget USA have many troops in its base in Europe and Asia. I/m not going to say Russia is faster, but I put on table that problem. Russia have better transport vehicles than USA. |

Posted by thisisreal (110) Edit | RE: Marine Corps and Army Posted: May 2, 2006 (00:02 AM) | Better transport? Have you read your history? Massive US airlift to Berlin when it was blocked off. ANother massive airlift to Israel during the Yom Kippur War, SOviets tried the same thing with the Egyptians, and they had lesser distance to go through. US is unequalled in the tonnage delievered, especially when taking into though the distance covred. Can Russia airdrop at a capacity of an airborne regiment? |
