Mother of all Defense deals
Who is going to have multi-billion dollar contract of supplying 126 Advanced MRCA to Indian Air Force?

1.Rafale(France)
2.Mirage-2000/5(France)
3.F/A-18_Superhornet(U.S.)
4.F-16(U.S.)
5.MiG-29M2(Russia)
6.JAS-39_Gripen(Sweden)

I think it will be Rafale or F/A-18

French have upper hand this time, recently there are indications that IAF is interested in Rafale, F-18 is good but for India US is still not a reliable supplier, Indian Millitary faced a serious blow to its mordernisation plan in 1998 when it was hit by US sanctions(due to thermonuclear tests)

Why is IAF interested in buying F-16s and F-18s when they are soon to be replaced by F-35A and F-35C?

trials of MiG-29M2 were satisfactory says IAF.

this will be the biggest defence deal, lets see who gonna get the cake!

I wish I could say for sure.

I suspect some of it may rest upon the carrier launch system. Ramp or Cat?

Maybe they are looking to purchase from more than one source.

I think Indian carriers use ramps.
IAF pilots are leaning towards the Rafael

Current ones in construction/revision use ramps, future may indeed use "Cats."

Other reports have IAF aviators looking toward the MiG's.

Firstly,All the MRCA above are battle proven and good, what India need is "reliability of supplier", Indo-US relations are at alltime high, but what if? relations turns cold and US put sanctions, what will IAF or MoD will do? thats not the case with French, Russians and Sweds.
since it is a big deal India should go for Rafale or MiG-29M2.

Secondly,According to Maintanence Command of IAF,"India already has world's most diverse arsenal(weapons of opponent origin), it will not be good to add another name into the IAF's inventory"

Thirdly, F/A-18 is heavy and is good for espionage purpose(which is already done by IAF's UAV Heron and Searcher) since India's threat are at its borders.

Fourthly, F-35A is much lighter as compared to Superhornet and suits India's requirements.

As far as replacing Sea Harrier, Indian Navy should go for F-35B

http://www.royfc.com/acft_news_old_mar2.html#17mar - Australia Doubts Supremacy of F-35 over Sukhoy Fighters.

http://www.royfc.com at this site apear almost in every day news in russian aviation.

Here I read something like nightmare: Title: "Nearly 3,200 Airplanes and 1,300 Helicopters to Be Removed from Russias Air Force Combat Ranks before 2009" at: http://www.royfc.com/acft_news_old_mar1.html#10mar

"The level of training of flight personnel is decreasing simultaneously. The average flying time for different types of aviation is from 10 to 30 hours per years, at the same time it is 180 hours a year for NATOs combat airmen as a minimum. according to international flight safety requirements, flying time of not fewer than 60 hours a year is considered the minimally allowable level."

Every day news come here: http://www.royfc.com/cgi-bin/today/acft_news.cgi

About MiG-29 for India: The carrier Groshkov was bought from Russia. Maybe will be better to have Migs 8-) .
After papers MiG-29 are better than F-18, Rafale or any other competitor. I think Russia sell nuclear fuel to India thinking at those 126 aircrafts, maybe will be an advantage for Russia. More, Russia offer a licence for building 126 MiG.

-It can be a mixture from the different countries, or not?

To say the MiG is better? Too broad.

Against the others in terms of climb, turn, and roll rates, it's either tied with one other at the top, or outright better.

But, in cases of control, and weapons suites, as well as pilot interface. It may well take a back seat.

That is a may, as many Russian aircraft are/have been noted for aerodynamic performance, but, their aviaonics have, in the past( and some say the present) left something to be desired.

Foxhound: Be cool.

Sorry about the misspell on "avionics".

Just got off a long swing shift 2000 to 0900.

SA is suffering a bit.

Foxhound: Crashing.
