Nebraskans getting the IL-76 waterbomber message from Tom Robinson
Russia can put out fires

In regard to your numerous reports on wildfires, please allow me to provide a much more important story behind the headlines. As chief of Global Emergency Response (www.waterbomber.com), I serve as international liaison to the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (similar to our Federal Emergency Management Agency and National Guard combined).

Since 1995, Russia has offered the United States, free of charge except for fuel, the largest and most effective firefighting air tankers in the world. Each of these remarkable planes can stop a raging wildfire over an area equal to 12 football fields, in less than 15 seconds!

Members of Congress, the Federal Aviation Administration, State Department and Department of Defense have all encouraged the participation of these unmatchable assets. The U.S. Forest Service, however, refuses to allow any foreign competition to its small, antique, private air tanker fleet. The IL-76 Waterbombers are four times larger than our largest C-130s and several times more efficient.

U.S. taxpayers lose billions each year because of the Forest Services refusal to think outside of its corrupt and incompetent practices.

Tom Robinson, Richmond, Va.

A Russian Ilyushin Il-76 has seen service overseas, yet a variety of political factors, resistance among veteran firefighters and severe cost constraints have kept the approximately 11,000-gal. tanker offshore.

No idea where the 'cost contraints' came from where the IL-76 is basically free.

Back in 1997-98, the UN even kept the IL-76 waterbomber off Indonesia's HAZE fires (where the spray-bomb MAFFS outfit ended up going) on the same terms - fuel alone; yet AIR International (UK) lists the IL-76 waterbomber as 'proven'.

Ok, Il-76 is used for transport for firefighting and for air refueling. If you know more about air refueling, tell us pls about Il-78 vs KC-10, KC-135 or Airbus version.

And some of this planes can fight against fire like Il-76?

The firefighter version of the IL-76 I know about. It's the subject of
controversy which has been going on for about a decade. Any dedicated
researcher can find out about it using search engines but the
fastest way is to go to waterbomber.com and read the links section.

Here's a link to a note I wrote in to Kommersant.ru in respect of Ilyushin's sale of IL-76 aircraft to China:

http://www.kommersant.com/forum/mess_list.asp

The IL-78 refueller I don't know about except to say it exists and I have seen it - not working - sitting - after a long haul, awaiting a return to Russia from the Southern Hemisphere.
