You can see the item now at NBC's TV website. Could be a breakthrough for the Il-76. Why ABC didn't break the item nationally when Tony Kovaleski had it is a mystery. CBC broke it a couple of years ago. Associated Press, with a national monopoly on print wildfire stories, has always rejected Global Emergency Response's appeals for publication of this longstanding issue, thus appearing to be in bed with the US Forest Service. In 12 years, Associated Press has run one (weak) story on the USFS rejection of the IL-76 waterbomber after FEMA ordered a couple up for Cerro Grande. |

I don't really have enough background on the IL-76 "Water-Bomber," or, its US produced equivelent. Could you shed a greater light on this subject? As to what makes the IL-76 the right choice for this job. Thanks in advance. Foxhound: |

Proven safety and superior performance characteristics such as shorter runways and lower and slower safe flight. Arguments against using the IL-76 were focussed on excess-to-perceived-optimal liquids volume or size. With the introduction of contender aircraft, 'too-large' arguments have been abandoned. Those arguments have always defied logic. 2. Better economy. 3. Intangible benefits associated with doing business with the Russian Federation. |

There is a situation in the Palm Springs CA, region, where the IL-76 "Waterbomber" may play a decisive roll. Fire info is @cnn.com, or any other news source with a US section. Foxhound: |

The US Forest 'Service' has not even approved of the DC-10. Is the land State-controlled or federal-controlled? In the NBC Sept 29 item, DC-10 supporters were voicing concerns over approval delays. |

LA Times, which has known about the airplane sine the mid 90s says nothing about it, as if it doesn't exist.Associated Press will not take calls from Global Emergency Response. Reminds me of the Cold War. |
